Last blog

17 februari 2017 - Almería, Spanje

So, I am writing this last blog from my new flat on the 32nd floor in the center of Kuala Lumpur, where I will spend my next 5 months, which are hopefully also the last of my bachelor. It is kind of strange, as in my mind I am still about to go back to my flat on the beach and see everyone, but instead I am surrounded by tall buildings. Not bad, just different hehe.

Almería isn’t very well known among the Dutch students and therefore also isn’t a very popular destination, like the bigger cities. I honestly believe that this is a shame, because even though it is small and there are not many things to do, I really had the best Erasmus period I could have imagined. Yes there were parties, the beach is a amazing and the water is super clean, but  we also had good classes.

I met some amazing people there and when we hung out with the whole group of friends, there were almost 30-40 people. A lot, but it became kind of like a small family. At one point there was even a collaboration between some people from the ESN and the students and they set up a techno-electro event thing, where every so often people could dance to something other than reggeaton music.

To close this part of the chapter I have some do’s and don’ts for future students:

DO:

Do: Take a language class, you need Spanish and now you have the opportunity.

Do: Integrate with other nationalities, this is the best way to broaden your horizons and meet new people.

Do: Go and see the Alcazaba at least 1 time! It is worth it.

Do: Relax a little and have fun! Enjoy your Erasmus.

DON’T:

Don’t: stick to all the Dutch people, you will miss out on a lot.

Don’t: eat at Tio Tom every day (okay it is cheap and literally everyone eats there, but San Fransisco and Consentida have way better tapas).

Don’t: Stress, it won’t help, because in Spain things happen when they happen.

Have fun!
